Extending the Existing System to Represent Future Scenario

The existing model will now be extended to represent a future scenario.  First exit HydroSWMM (if already open) and then restart HydrosWMM.

Ensure that the background drawing, HydroSWMM- Tutorial Drawing_fixed_backup.abd has been opened. Do this by selecting CAD > Open Drawing and selecting the file from the Documents\GLS\HydroSWMM\ folder.

Select View > Zoom Drawing Extents to zoom to the entire drawing extent. Then go to the CAD > Tools > Layer Manager  and hide the CONTOURS, GRID and SCALE layers for now by clicking Visible: Yes items to toggle them to No. Close the Layer Manager by clicking OK at the bottom right.

Then load the last model,  Documents\GLS\HydroSWMM\HydroSWMM  - Tutorial Model_backup.wlz (for example from Manage Models > Load Model -> As Active Model

In this scenario a new development is to be constructed to the South of the existing catchments.  As part of the development requirements and analysis must be done to determine whether another pipeline is needed and the sizing of the pipeline.  The pipe routing has been provided as part of the 'Future System' CAD Layer.

Although the topological detail shows the system to be linked into the existing system, new nodes need to be created as the system will run in parallel, independently.

Create the pipes, additional nodes, and catchment in the same manner as described in previous sections, using the same values as the other catchments and the same rainstation.  The topology will need to be altered depending on the slopes, so do not attempt to follow the dashed layout for the future system exactly.  The size of the pipe as well as length of additional pipe and merging points can also be varied.
